Semuliki National Park, established in 1993, spans approximately 85 square miles in the Western Rift Valley of Uganda. The park is a treasure trove of ecological diversity, featuring lowland tropical rainforests, savannah grasslands, and wetlands. Its location, straddling the Equator and adjacent to the Semuliki River, contributes to its rich biodiversity, including some of Africa's most enigmatic wildlife. Notably, the park is home to over 400 bird species, making it a haven for bird watchers. Mammals such as the forest elephant, buffalo, and various primates thrive in these ecosystems. The hot springs of Sempaya highlight the geothermal activity in the area, offering a fascinating glimpse into the earth's dynamic processes. Historically, the park has been a land shared by the Batwa and Bakonjo indigenous peoples, whose cultural significance adds another layer to the park's allure.
